There hasn’t been too much buzz on the running back front in NFL free agency thus far, but one player is suddenly drawing some interest.

According to ESPN, Darren McFadden is one of the few backs who has “generated significant interest” so far.

McFadden’s career with the Oakland Raiders was marred by injuries and little productivity, especially considering the fact he was taken fourth overall in the 2008 draft. He’s proven he is unable to be a workhorse type of running back, but could provide a team with a change-of-pace option out of the backfield.

Run DMC has missed an average of five games per season and has produced one 1,000-yard season during his career. In 2013, he rushed for 379 yards and averaged 3.3 yards per carry. The Cincinnati Bengals were mentioned as a potential landing spot for McFadden, largely because first-year offensive coordinator Hue Jackson used to coach him, but that idea has been shot down. The running back-needy Raiders may also welcome McFadden back, but only at a discounted rate.

Will the Cleveland Browns draft a quarterback with the No. 4 overall pick? Perhaps the answer under center is a veteran.

According to Cleveland.com, it’s a “serious possibility” the Browns will sign former Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub to compete with Brian Hoyer. Schaub previously enjoyed some his best statistical campaigns in Houston when new Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was calling plays.

Both the New York Jets and Raiders have shown interest in Schaub. If and when the Texans release Schaub, he reportedly intends to sign with a team where he’s given a chance to start.

With Michael Bennett re-upping with the Seattle Seahawks, the Chicago Bears, who were interested in the defensive lineman, will have to turn their attention elsewhere. One option: Lamarr Houston.

According to NFL.com, the Bears are going after the Houston who is coming off a career year in Oakland. The team is also reportedly shopping veteran Julius Peppers and could release him, which would clear up cap space to sign Houston.
