Pittsburgh Penguins at Anaheim Ducks
Pittsburgh lost last night in San Jose 5-3 and that makes three losses in four games for the Penguins. Even more worrisome is that they’ve been outshot by 33 in their three games on this Western road trip. The power play is 5-for-20 in their four games since the break and that’s a very solid mark. They have a short-handed goal in there so that means they’ve scored a whopping six even strength goals in their last four games. That most certainly will not cut it in the Western Conference.
The Ducks have only played three games since the Olympic break and have given up just six goals against in those three games. The team traded Dustin Penner earlier this week and that left a hole on the top line. That hole has been filled by Kyle Palmieri. In his first game alongside Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, Palmieri had a season-high 17:49 in ice time and that includes first unit power play minutes. The rest of their lines might be a blender, but that trio seems locked at the top (for now).
The Penguins hosted Anaheim back in November and the result was a 3-1 win for Pittsburgh. With the way Pittsburgh is playing lately I expect a bit of a different result tonight. This game should be higher scoring than the last, though, so I will be avoiding both goalies.
