New Jersey Devils at Detroit Red Wings
New Jersey won their last game out 4-3 and it happened to be against this very Detroit team. The Devils didn’t do much at the deadline except send Andrei Loktionov on his way to Carolina in exchange for Tuomo Ruutu. For now, it seems like Ruutu will slot on the third line with Dainius Zubrus.
New Jersey has been an offensive juggernaut coming out of the break, scoring 17 goals in their four games since Sochi. Even without their 4-for-8 performance on the power play against the Islanders, their PP units are 3-for-10 in their last four games. Offensively, this team is rolling right now.
Detroit lost 3-2 last night in overtime to Colorado on the night Nick Lidstrom had his number retired by the team. Those types of games can be draining emotionally for a team; getting up for a big game and then losing is deflating. As expected, David Legwand slotted in between Johan Franzen and Gustav Nyquist after his trade from Nashville. They did ok last night but will be expected to do more than be average from here on out.
I expect a bit of a letdown game here from Detroit tonight. On paper, these two teams are pretty close and the season series (one win each, 6-5 in goals for New Jersey) indicates just that. With Detroit playing on back to back nights and likely incurring a bit of a letdown, I like Cory Schneider tonight in all types of games. I will not be stacking any lines from New Jersey, however.
