New York Islanders at Edmonton Oilers
The Islanders traded Thomas Vanek yesterday and considering they’ve already gotten rid of Matt Moulson and Andrew MacDonald (with John Tavares is out for the season), it leaves them with Kyle Okposo, Frans Nielsen, and Michael Grabner up front. After those three guys, it’s a whole bunch of JAGs (just a guy). They’ve given up 17 goals in four games since the Olympic break but have managed a couple of overtime wins. The team has seemed to tighten things down defensively but the scoring punch is long gone.
Edmonton is still a team in the NHL and of that I’m certain. They’ve traded Ilya Bryzgalov and Nick Schultz in the last couple of days so their, uhh, depth? took a hit in the last couple of days. Despite modest results in the last few games, the Oilers have been outshot by a combined total of 18 in their last four games. It’s not extreme until you realize three of the four games (NJD, CAL, OTT) were against teams not in a playoff position. In short, the Oilers are god-awful terrible.
I don’t know, who cares about this game? It’s such a coin flip that there is no way to rely on either team in daily fantasy today. These two teams met in October and it resulted in a 3-2 win for the Islanders. That was with a full team. I might be tempted with Ben Scrivens in net for the Oilers just because of the team coming into town, but I will not be relying on the skaters from either team today.
