St. Louis Blues at Nashville Predators
St. Louis was shutout in their first two games off the break but has turned it around and won back to back games 4-2 after the acquisition of goaltender Ryan Miller. In their last two games, they’ve outshot their opponents by 17. In their last eight games going back before the break, the Blues’ penalty kill is rolling along at a 92-percent clip and that will come in handy tonight with the Predators’ power play. In short, the Blues are starting to look like the Cup contender people expect them to be.
Nashville has only scored five goals in three games coming out of the break and three of those goals came on the power play. This team running into the Blues’ penalty kill that is uber-sharp right now is unfortunate, but it means that their offensive upside is next to nil right now. It should be noted that Michael Del Zotto is essentially persona non grata on the power play so while he was a good cheap defensive option for a few games, his value is also next to nil right now.
St. Louis has won all three games against Nashville so far this year and has scored 13 goals in the process. The return of Pekka Rinne shouldn’t matter much for the purposes of this game as he was in net for a loss against this team earlier in the season. I think St. Louis’ depth is too much for Nashville and that would make them a decent option to stack players in a GPP.
