Columbus Blue Jackets at Chicago Blackhawks
Columbus got shelled in their first game out of the break but have reeled off three straight wins since, scoring 12 goals along the way. In those three wins, the Jackets have scored four power play goals and have only allowed one against. They rid themselves of Marian Gaborik yesterday at the deadline, though it might not be that big a loss for the team as they have been without him for most of the year anyway. The Jackets are also 2-2-1 on the road since the start of February. That might not seem impressive, but those games include a California death run and their shellacking at the hands of New Jersey coming out of the break. This team is playing well right now.
Chicago has lost two of three games coming out of the break with their lone win coming against the struggling Penguins in the outdoor game. They also got some bad news as Marian Hossa will be out at least a couple of weeks with an upper-body injury. This move has put Brandon Saad on the top line and he looked good with Jonathan Toews on the top line in their last game. The ‘Hawks are playing well despite struggles – they have outshot their opponents by an average of nine per game since the break – they just aren’t getting the puck luck right now.
Surprisingly, the Blackhawks only have three wins in eight games against the Eastern Conference since Christmas. Conversely, the Blue Jackets have won five of nine games against the Western Conference since Christmas. Both teams are playing well right now so that makes this game a bit of a coin flip.
For DFS purposes, I will take a few players off both sides for cash games but will be avoiding both goalies at all costs.
