Los Angeles Kings at Winnipeg Jets
Los Angeles has won all four games in regulation coming out of the break and has only allowed three goals against in their last four games. In an amazing feat, they have also scored 13 goals in those four games, which is as many as they scored in the 10 games leading into the Sochi Olympics. The Kings made one of the biggest splashes at the trade deadline yesterday with the acquisition of scoring winger Marian Gaborik. It’s worth keeping an eye on Twitter to see which line Gaborik lands on; should he end up with Anze Kopitar, he’ll be a great value over the next few games.
Winnipeg suffered a big loss on Tuesday night both on the scoreboard and in their lineup: the team lost in overtime to a hapless Islanders team and they lost Mark Scheifele for the rest of the regular season to a knee injury. That injury would move Olli Jokinen back up to the second line with Evander Kane while Blake Wheeler goes to the top line and Dustin Byfuglien with Jokinen/Kane. It’s also worth noting that Ondrej Pavelec has kept up his stellar play that started before the break, having not allowed more than three goals in three straight games. Faint praise, but that’s about all that Pavelec gets.
These two teams met at the start of the season in Winnipeg and the Jets managed a 5-3 win over Los Angeles. These two teams haven’t changed that much since then, so it might be a good bet that there are more goals here than expected. There should be enough value to pick players on both sides for cash games but I will not be taking either goalie in any sort of format.
