Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers
Washington has managed five of six points since coming off the break and 13 goals scored in the process. There was a trade last night involving Martin Erat that will shake up their forward lines a little bit but shouldn’t change too much overall for this team up front. The Capitals also acquired Dustin Penner from Anaheim and he should find himself slotted on the top line with Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin.
Philadelphia was also busy on the trade market yesterday, acquiring defenseman Andrew MacDonald from the New York Islanders for a prospects/picks package. This is an effort to bolster the blue line, but it’s a wonder where MacDonald will slot in; he’s used to taking on first line competition but may not have to in Philadelphia with Kimmo Timonen already there.
These two teams played on the weekend and the result was a 5-4 overtime game. In fact, in the four games these two teams have played against each other this year, there hasn’t been fewer than seven goals scored in any of them.
I would stay away from both goaltenders tonight but there should be enough goals to support players from both sides. I would not feel comfortable stacking either side, though.
