Ottawa Senators at Edmonton Oilers
Time is running out for Ottawa to cement themselves in the playoffs. After tonight, they cannot be in a playoff position and will have 20 games left on the schedule. For a team that was a dark horse pick before the season started to get to the Cup finals, they have fallen flat on their face for most of this year. They improved through December and into January but have really stagnated in their last 10 games or so. If they want to get to the playoffs, they know that games like tonight are two points they can’t leave on the table. I expect a big effort out of this team.
Edmonton has lost both their games coming out of the break and has just one goal to show for it. That team just hasn’t been able to get anything going offensively having put just 43 shots on goal in their two games. With Ales Hemsky rumored to be on his way out the door, I would keep a close eye to the Twitterverse to see if he actually does get moved before the game. That would have serious implications in their lineup. Other than that, this team is still bad.
I don’t know if Ottawa lights up Edmonton because goaltender Ben Scrivens has been playing out of his mind for a while now. I do expect Ottawa to win this game, though, so I will be sprinkling some players from the not-Kyle Turris line on my teams. Note: Mike Hoffman, not Patrick Wiercioch, has made his way to the top power play unit for Ottawa. Wiercioch is on the second power play unit, however, with Bobby Ryan, Mika Zibanejad and Milan Michalek.
