Vancouver Canucks at Phoenix Coyotes
Vancouver is a mess, plain and simple. With Daniel Sedin injured and out for the foreseeable future, Roberto Luongo and Ryan Kesler linked to trade talks, and a general inability to score goals, this team has plummeted from Cup contenders to out of the playoffs in the last two months. At this point relying on anyone from this team in DFS, be it either goaltender or a skater, is a losing strategy. Until the team shows signs of turning around, I’ll probably just avoid them at all costs.
Phoenix hasn’t looked very sharp coming out of the break either, losing all three games to date (one in a shootout). Part of this is the penalty kill that has given up four goals on 11 chances in those three games. The bright side for Phoenix is that Vancouver has a terrible power play so this shouldn’t be an issue tonight. I noted a couple days ago that Michael Stone seems to be the go-to for shots from the point on the power play. This continues and probably provides the best value on defense for this team.
This is the fifth and final game between these two teams this year and each side has taken two games each. All four games were one goal games but ranged from 1-0 to 5-4. Judging by the way these two teams are playing, I think this is more of a 2-1 game than a 5-4 game so goaltender Mike Smith is a good play tonight in net for 50/50s and heads-up games.
