New York Islanders at Winnipeg Jets
The Islanders managed a hard-fought win immediately coming out of the break against the Maple Leafs. They have lost their last two games after that by a combined score of 11-4. In fact, this team has given up 15 goals against in three games since Sochi. Without John Tavares in the lineup, this team is a shell of what it was. There are also a lot of trade rumors surrounding defenseman Andrew MacDonald and the last thing this team needs right now is distractions.
The Jets picked up pretty much where they left off with two wins coming out of the break, allowing just three goals against in those contests. Going forward, the fact that they are getting plowed in shots against is worrisome. However, for this game only, it’s not much of a worry.
Winnipeg is now rolling three scoring lines and that kind of constant offensive pressure will be tough for the Islanders to contain. Even with the Islanders getting Frans Nielsen back from the injured reserve, they are still not deep enough to skate with the Jets.
Winnipeg is a team I would love to stack tonight. I may even roll out Ondrej Pavelec for GPP purposes. If I had to pick a line, I would look at the Mark Scheifele/Evander Kane connection. These two guys have seemed to develop a sense of chemistry together and Kane’s speed could spell disaster for a relatively immobile Islanders defense.
