Pittsburgh Penguins at Nashville Predators
The Penguins were shelled 5-1 in the outdoor game at Soldier Stadium in Chicago on Saturday night. The Penguins have now lost both games coming out of the break and have given up 10 goals against along the way. I don’t want to lay it all at the feet of goaltender Marc-André Fleury, but it’s worth nothing that his even-strength save percentage is down to .915 while Ondrej Pavelec is at .912. On the bright side of things, James Neal has three points in two games coming out of the break with a couple of goals mixed in there. When he’s hot, there’s almost no one better in daily fantasy.
Nashville will at last get back their all-star goaltender Pekka Rinne today. Rinne has missed most of the year to date largely with an infection in his surgically-repaired hip. I know it’s just the AHL, but Rinne saved 33/35 shots he faced over two games. If he can return to form quickly, this is a huge boost for the team. He hasn’t played a game in the NHL in four and a half months, though, so I might give him some time to settle in. Nashville has only averaged 20 shots against in their last three games, though, so maybe he can sneak one out for them tonight.
This game is a bit tough to predict because of the return of Rinne. Does he come back immediately to Vezina form and stymie the Penguins or does their firepower prove too much for him in his first game back? For that reason, I won’t be stacking the Penguins. In fact, Rinne would make a good play tonight in a GPP. If there was ever a “let’s win one for the goalie” game, tonight is that night for the Predators.
