Colorado Avalanche at Chicago Blackhawks
Coming out of the break, Colorado has scored 14 goals (six on the power play) en route to a 2-1 record. The lone blemish came at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings and there’s really not a lot of shame in that one. This is a team that doesn’t do well in the possession side of things (poorly, in fact) but there is a pile of high-end skill here. It’s part of the reason why Colorado beat Chicago back in the middle of January despite being outshot by 22. It’s not a recipe for consistent success, but Colorado can succeed in a one-game situation with it.
Chicago will be without Marian Hossa tonight (and for the next couple weeks) due to injury. This means that Brandon Saad has gotten a promotion to the top line and his DFS value just shot up big time. It will change things on the second power play unit where Hossa has played and it remains to be seen who will take his place there. Despite the early losses, Chicago has come out of the break playing very, very good hockey.
It’s safe to say this will probably be a higher scoring game as there have been 20 goals scored in the three games these two teams have played so far. I don’t think we see a 6-4 game, but 4-2 or 4-3 is more like it. I don’t feel comfortable taking either goalie in this game either but a couple of the higher-end guys sprinkled across 50/50 or Heads-up lineups is just fine.
