Carolina Hurricanes at Anahaim Ducks
Carolina has been an unmitigated disaster coming out of the Olympic break, losing all three games they’ve played to date, scoring four goals in the process and going 0-for-13 on the power play. To make matters worse, Alex Semin could possibly miss tonight’s game after missing the last one with a knee injury. The team isn’t scoring a lot of goals right now and losing one of their top skill guys is not going to help matters.
Anaheim has played just one game coming out of the break so far and it was a 1-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Friday. That game was a low-scoring, tight-checking affair and that won’t be the case tonight, at least for Anaheim: In six Sunday home games this year, the Ducks are 6-0-0 and have given up just 10 goals against. My top goaltending play for tonight is whoever starts for Anaheim (likely Jonas Hiller) and I would feel comfortable stacking the top line in Anaheim for GPP purposes tonight.
I don’t know if Carolina has much of a chance tonight as this is their second road game in as many nights and their fourth in six. The Hurricanes have also played 14 games this year that was the second of a back to back and have won just three of those games. Of those three wins, only one was on the road and it was in Buffalo, one of the worst teams this century. I fully expect the Ducks to blow out Carolina tonight. If they don’t, well, there’s always tomorrow.
