Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 2

Dustin Penner

St. Louis Blues at Phoenix Coyotes

I wouldn’t say the St. Louis offense has stumbled a bit coming out of the break, I would say it has fallen flat on its face: In the two games since Sochi, St. Louis has been shutout in both of them (obviously going 0-fer on the power play) and managed just 38 shots on goal. Of course, the big news was the acquisition of goaltender Ryan Miller from Buffalo on Friday night. He, along with Steve Ott, are expected to play tonight for the Blues with Ott slotting on the second line with Derek Roy and T.J Oshie. This move has also put Alex Steen back on the top line with David Backes. Of course, none of this matters if they don’t start generating more chances.

Phoenix has lost both games coming off of the Olympic break but it’s not to say that they aren’t playing well, they just aren’t getting the puck luck right now. A big issue for them, as it has been all season, is the penalty kill that has given up three goals in their first two games back on just eight short-handed chances. For their problems on the power play of late, the Blues are still a top five power play team on the season and could bury Phoenix if the Coyotes don’t get things together quickly.

I’m not worried about goals against for the Blues, I’m much more concerned with their scoring. The team had rode a high shooting percentage all season and it’s starting to come down to Earth. Either way, it might not be a high-scoring game anyway: In the first two games these two teams have played against each other this year, there were eight total goals scored. I will dabble with some skaters from both sides, especially the top Blues power play unit, but will avoid both goalies.
