Tampa Bay Lightning at Colorado Avalanche
The Lightning will be playing their third road game in four days today as they go into Colorado a day after winning in Dallas 4-2. In their two games to start the end of the schedule, though, Tampa Bay has been thoroughly outplayed for most of the 120 minutes, being outshot 70-37. Goaltender Ben Bishop started both of those games for Tampa Bay so it will be interesting to see if they go to him again today. I expect Tampa Bay to get outplayed either way today, but if Bishop is not in net they could very well get blown out.
Colorado’s offense has looked pretty good coming out of the Sochi break with eight goals scored in their first two games (though they have given up eight goals in return). A big reason for their success is the power play that has gone 5-for-9 in their two games. The revolving door on the defense for their power plays has continued as well as Nick Holden found himself on the top power play unit with Matt Duchene for the entire game against Phoenix. I would assume that continues today.
A lot of this game hinges on who starts for Tampa Bay so keep it locked to Left Wing Lock for goalie starter updates. I expect the Avalanche to win this game regardless so Semyon Varlamov is a good play in net, but I will be stacking Avalanche players if not-Ben Bishop gets the start for the Lightning.
