St. Louis Blues at Anaheim Ducks
St. Louis lost a game a couple nights ago to Vancouver, a game in which they were thoroughly dominated from start to finish. A lot of teams had that problem coming out of the break so I’ll just chalk that one up to readjustment: Boston lost to Buffalo, Ottawa was waxed by Detroit, Pittsburgh lost to Montréal, Los Angeles beat Calgary in the second of back to back nights on the road. Some teams did well (Dallas at home to Carolina), but some teams just need to get their timing back. I think we see a different St. Louis team tonight.
On the flipside of teams playing well in their second game back, a lot of teams struggled in their first game and I expect that out of Anaheim tonight. The Ducks went just 5-6-0 in their last 11 games before the break and were struggling to score goals in their last few games leading to Sochi. It’s expected that Jonas Hiller will get the start in net tonight and that’ll be his first game action in over a week. There should be rust all over this Ducks team.
St. Louis has already lost twice to Anaheim this year but the last game was just a 3-2 contest. I expect something along those scoring lines tonight with St. Louis getting the win. I would also look for the Blues to get their power play, which is 0-for-21 in their last four games, to get going. I’m not stacking either side in this game but will have players down St. Louis’ depth chart across my rosters (avoiding the Backes line).
