Phoenix Coyotes at Colorado Avalanche
Phoenix was in Winnipeg last night and lost 3-2 in a shootout. For a team coming out of the break on the road, they actually looked pretty good at times. In the end, they just couldn’t find an extra goal to put behind Ondrej Pavelec. In three games this year that were the second game of a back-to-back on the road, the Coyotes have managed just four goals for and a 1-2-0 record. One note is that it appeared the Coyotes were trying to force-feed defenseman Michael Stone a point shot on the power play, in case you were perhaps looking for a cheap defenseman tonight.
Colorado looked good through two periods in their first game off the break but eventually lost 6-4 to Los Angeles. To be fair, it was back-up J-S Giguere in net and not Semyon Varlamov. Other than the goals allowed, the Matt Duchene line looked even better than it did before the Olympic break. Also, depth player Jamie McGinn added a goal and an assist as his role expands now that Alex Tanguay is expected to be out for the season.
Each team has taken a game from each other this year so it might indicate that these two teams are fairly evenly matched. In a game like that, I’ll take the team whose context is better for the upcoming game and tonight that’s Colorado. I’ll have Semyon Varlamov in quite a few lineups tonight and might even stack the Duchene line in GPPs (if I do play them).
