Detroit Red Wings at Ottawa Senators
The Wings beat the Habs last night 2-1 in overtime in a game that was less close than the score indicated. That game said more about the Habs, though, than it did about the Wings. One thing to monitor is Pavel Datsyuk’s health; his injured groin seemed to hamper him at times last night and there’s no telling how that will play out in a back to back situation. It will be curious to see what the Wings do in net with Jimmy Howard just coming back from Sochi and having played last night. Senators skaters will get a boost regardless of who is in the cage, though.
Ottawa has shifted their lines around and now Colin Greening is on the Jason Spezza line with Erik Condra part of the Kyle Turris line now. These moves have pushed Mika Zibanejad into a centre role on the third line. There’s no telling how lineup changes will affect a team coming out of such an extended break but at the very least it’s a boost for Erik Condra. I also wonder if Coach Paul Maclean will monitor Erik Karlsson’s minutes coming out of the break. Speaking of Karlsson, he has a new defense partner on the top power play unit in Patrick Wiercioch.
Ottawa has taken two of three games already from Detroit this year and have scored 12 goals in the process. I expect a modest offensive outburst from the Sens tonight and taking some of their power play players could be a sneaky stack in GPPs. Other than that, I will be using Condra and Wiercioch in cash game spots to save money for more expensive players.
