San Jose Sharks at Philadelphia Flyers
The Sharks should get a big boost tonight as Logan Couture is expected to be back in the lineup after suffering a hand injury at the start of January that forced him to miss a month of action and the Olympics. I fully expect to see him absolutely flying tonight and he will be one of my most-used players for DFS. Right now he’s slotted to play alongside Joe Pavelski and that’s a pretty good place to be. I don’t know if the same can be said of the whole team, though: travelling home to San Jose only to fly out to Philadelphia has to be hard on Olympians like Pavelski, Patrick Marleau and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. I expect the Sharks to be a little more porous than usual.
Philadelphia will be without Kimmo Timonen tonight and that cuts down their already thin defensive corps to Kate Moss levels. The bright side of things is that their only Olympians in Mark Streit and Andrej Meszaros have had loads of time to recover from their trip while all the forwards remained intact. Aside from Timonen, this is a team coming into the game healthy, rested and ready to go for the stretch run. They had been one of the highest-scoring teams in the NHL since November and I think that trend continues.
If you’re feeling adventurous tonight, Steve Mason could be an off-the-board goalie to have in your lineups. I’m not feeling that adventurous so I’ll probably just stay away from both goalies and go heavy on Flyers players in my lineups. As mentioned, I think Couture is a great play tonight. Sometimes players have extra incentive to stand out and Couture has that tonight.
