Chicago Blackhawks at New York Rangers
The Blackhawks have a lot of players on their team that did not have a lot of turn-around time from the Olympics. Guys like Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith, Niklas Hjalmarsson, and Johnny Oduya have all have only a couple of days to acclimate back to the NHL and their time zones. Not only that but they’re travelling for their first game in return. That’s a lot of top end talent that’s had to do a lot of travelling in not a lot of time.
The Rangers had Rick Nash, Ryan McDonagh and Henrik Lundqvist come back late from the Olympics as well. Not only that, but they lost their leading scorer in Mats Zuccarello to a hand injury for at least a month. If the ‘Hawks are coming in light, the Rangers are already there.
In games like this, I’ll usually defer to the home team but this one is really a crapshoot. The ‘Hawks lost six of nine heading into the break while the Rangers won six of nine.
I’ll just stay away from both goalies here and load up on players from both sides. There’s too much talent here to simply pass it up. I am keener on Patrick Kane’s line than Jonathan Toews’ line, though, if to just avoid a match-up with the Derek Stepan line.
