Colorado Avalanche at New York Islanders
Colorado is another team that is sort of seeing the wrong side of puck luck right now (after seeing much of the season with it) as they have just four goals on their last 92 shots on goal, just a 4.2-percent shot rate. This has led to two straight losses for this team now and just one goal scored in each game. There’s basically nothing different going on with this team than has for most of the season other than they’re not scoring on as many shots as they had been but their opponents are.
The Islanders’ latest streak of going 1-5-1 has all but eliminated them from the playoffs and with the distractions surrounding Thomas Vanek lately, I wonder if they might not mail in this game. It’s tough to predict when a team will lay an egg but the Islanders seem primed for one right now. If they want to stay in this game, they’ll have to keep up with Colorado’s power play and that might be tough to do, seeing the Islanders are 0-for-30 on the power play since January 21st.
This game is tough to predict because neither team is having particularly good fortune right now and there’s incentive for both sides to kind of mail in this game. The last time these two teams met was in Colorado and I don’t think that’s the type of game we’ll have tonight. If either side isn’t really feeling up to snuff, there’s enough talent on both sides to make this a high-scoring game. I wouldn’t take either goalie and wouldn’t stack either team but I do think picking players from this game in 50/50s should provide value.
