Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs
The Canucks just can’t get their team right: Henrik Sedin is out of the lineup again (as are Kevin Bieksa, Yannick Weber and Chris Tanev); Alex Burrows still hasn’t scored this year; the team has scored more than two goals twice in their last 14 games; Roberto Luongo has been pretty bad over the last two weeks. This team is an absolute mess right now and there’s pretty much nothing positive to say about this group, fantasy-related or otherwise.
The Leafs laid an egg against Florida and looked to be going that way against Tampa on Thursday night, too, but were able to survive an early onslaught to eventually win 4-1. One interesting fact is that Jonathan Bernier is tied for the most wins among goalies in the NHL in games where he’s had to make 30-plus saves; he has also only started 37 games. This means the Leafs are reliant on the goalie to consistently steal games and that’s a dangerous way to live.
The last time these two teams met was back in November and the Canucks shut out Toronto 4-0 and outshot them 47-21. Considering the health concerns on the Vancouver side of things, plus how poorly they’ve been playing, I don’t expect a repeat of that.
I won’t be stacking either side because it’s a situation where both goalies can stand on their head and steal one, so I’ll be mostly staying away from this game.
