Boston Bruins at St. Louis Blues
Boston is looking to become the second team from the Eastern Conference with a win in St. Louis in the last three days but they seriously have their work cut out for them: Zdeno Chara will not be playing for Boston tonight or Saturday because he’s been given permission from the team to leave for the Olympics to be the flag bearer for Slovakia. This team is miles better with Chara on the ice than without so I’m not sure how this team will hold up without him, especially considering the quality of the opponent tonight.
St. Louis had a big time letdown the other night against Ottawa but from the quality of the goals the Sens scored, a little bit of that should be put on goaltender Jaroslav Halak. In his last six games, Halak has had as many games with 3-plus goals as he’s had with two or less and that inconsistency is death in daily fantasy. He gets the nod in net tonight and that worries me a little bit. It’s notable that towards the end of that Ottawa game, T.J. Oshie was put back on the top line with David Backes and Alex Steen, the spot previously occupied by Chris Stewart.
Boston is a really good team but losing Chara leaves a massive void, no pun intended (well, maybe a little). If they can’t clamp down defensively, expect them to play a more wide open game and that means a lot of goals. I would assume St. Louis wins this game but I will not be relying on Halak in any of my lineups.
