Detroit Red Wings at Florida Panthers
The Red Wings are limping along without Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen (and who knows how healthy Henrik Zetterberg really is) yet still find themselves in the second wild card playoff spot in the East. Datsyuk is expected back tonight though I’m not sure what kind of shape he’ll be in. They’ve managed to stay afloat but they are pretty inconsistent and that’s bad news for daily fantasy. One aspect of their game that they’ve been struggling with is the penalty kill which is just 72.2-percent over their last nine games. Thankfully, they get one of the worst power plays in recent memory tonight.
Florida is a decent team, they just have horrible special teams and few (none) high-scoring playmakers. This is why they can win games 4-1 like they did the other night after getting outscored 16-6 in the three previous games. When they’re able to keep the other teams off the board, they have a shot. Unfortunately for them, they have the 30th-ranked penalty kill and Detroit’s power play is rolling along at a 23.7-percent clip in their last nine games.
The Red Wings have had problems with the Panthers this year having lost to them in three of the four games that they have played. On top of that, the Panthers are 5-1-2 at home since Christmas so they’ve been taking advantage of teams looking to bask in the Florida sun.
I expect this to be a low-scoring game but the Panthers might be able to skate away with one here. I won’t be relying on him, but I’ll have Tim Thomas in a GPP or two.
