Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay Lightning
The problem with ever putting money on Toronto for anything is that they get completely dominated regularly. Sure they had their 9-1-1 record for a while, but this is a team that has lost by at least five goals on three occasions since January 1st alone and five times since then they’ve been outshot by at least 15 in a game. Their last time out was a 4-1 loss to Florida where they were actually in the game on the scoreboard for most of it, despite the shot charts for the two teams looking like a wishbone.
Tampa Bay got a bit of bad news yesterday as they found out that Steven Stamkos won’t be available until after the Olympic break. On the flipside, Martin St. Louis found out this morning that he will be replacing Stamkos on Team Canada. If there was ever a game to really come out on fire, this would be the game for it.
These two teams met just over a week ago with Toronto coming away with a 3-2 win in Toronto. Having watched that game, it was one of those “hang on for dear life” games for the Leafs as they were dominated pretty much from start to finish and got some breaks that they could finish. I don’t see that happening again. I don’t know that I’ll have Ben Bishop on my rosters but I’ll certainly have Tampa Bay’s top line.
I also wouldn’t be opposed to Victor Hedman in some lineups despite his price getting a bit exorbitant.
