Columbus Blue Jackets at Anaheim Ducks
Columbus starts their California trip tonight in Anaheim having come off back to back wins against Washington and Florida. In their last 15 games, the Jackets have only given up eight power play goals against for an efficiency of 86-percent. The power play has been equally impressive over that stretch of games with an efficiency of 22.6-percent. This is a team with all top three lines rolling well right now, the goaltending is typically very good night in and night out and the special teams have been very solid as well. They’ll need all of these things for this game tonight.
Since Anaheim’s eight-game winning streak in early January, the Ducks are 4-4 in their last eight games. A big reason for this is that their underlying stats have taken a hit in the last month, as their puck possession in close games has dropped 1.2-percent for the season overall. In their last 10 games, the Ducks have been under 40-percent in four of them and above 50-percent in just three of them. In other words, this team is not getting consistent results because they keep losing the battle at even strength. This has all led to the Ducks scoring just 14 goals in their last six games which is a goals/game average about one full goal lower than their season average.
I’m not a big fan of Eastern Conference teams traveling to the West Coast for a road trip but Columbus and Anaheim are just playing two different games right now. If I’m looking to separate myself in a GPP, Sergei Bobrovsky might not be a bad play in net. Other than that, this will probably hopefully be a low-scoring game so I won’t have many skaters outside of the value plays from Columbus.
