Buffalo Sabres at Colorado Avalanche
Buffalo pulled a win out in Phoenix a couple of nights ago thanks to a 38-save performance from Ryan Miller. The problem with stacking against the Sabres is that Miller is one of the few goalies who can have that type of performance with regularity: the Sabres have 15 wins as a team this year, nine of those have come in a game where Miller saved 34+ shots. There’s really not much to say about the Sabres at this point other than they have nine power play goals in 13 games this month and Ryan Miller can steal a game from any team on any given night.
Colorado comes into this game with a 7-2-1 mark in their last 10 games and have pretty much cemented themselves a place in the playoffs. One concern for them of late has been the goaltending; Semyon Varlamov’s save percentage has settled into the .918 range for the last couple of months and that’s probably about where is true talent lies. Other than Varlamov, this is a team that has three lines rolling well right now and it hardly ever seems like Nathan MacKinnon takes a night off.
This would typically be a game where I would stack Avalanche players but Miller has put the fear of god in me. Of note is that Thursday night made two games in a row with Erik Johnson and Alex Tanguay on the point for the first unit power play. Johnson’s price is still pretty cheap across the DFS sites so he’s a guy that could provide cheap production from defense if you’re looking to spend elsewhere. Don’t spend it on Varlamov though.
