Philadelphia Flyers at Anaheim Ducks
Philadelphia is making the dreaded California road trip and it starts tonight in Anaheim. The Flyers throttled Detroit 5-0 in Philly’s last game, but that was a depleted Wings team starting their backup goalie. Before that, the Flyers had lost four straight games and looked like a team on the ropes. I don’t think one game against an AHL-calibre team changes all that. One bright side to all this is that the Flyers have scored a power play goal in four straight games and have 11 power play goals in 14 games this month (though they have given up nine in return).
The Ducks are just 3-3 in their last six games and that includes two regulation losses at home after having none in every home game before that. Since their nine goal outburst against Vancouver, the Ducks have just 14 goals in the six games since so the offense has dried up a little bit. This is a team that has the tendency of being outshot and have been outshot by a margin of over five shots per game in those last six (and that includes a 42-21 advantage against Winnipeg). I said it earlier, you can’t keep getting consistently outshot by 10-plus shots a game and keep winning.
This seems a bit more of a toss-up than it probably should be. If the Flyers can hold the Ducks to a couple of goals, they have a chance in this game. However, if the Ducks were to break out offensively, a team that has given up 21 goals in their last six games (including a shutout) is a good place to start.
I like the Ducks in this game but I don’t know if I take the goaltender as the Flyers offense is potent enough to put up three or four goals on a limited amount of shots.
