Pittsburgh Penguins at Los Angeles Kings
The pièce de résistance for tonight is the late game in Los Angeles with two Stanley Cup contenders facing off against each other.
The Penguins are having a really good month with their 8-2-1 record so far in January. One surprising aspect of this is they have 39 goals in those 11 games and just six of them came on the power play. In fact, their PP efficiency this month is just 18.8-percent, a very low number considering the talent available to them. The Penguins, though, are just 2-2-1 against the West while on the road this year, a common theme among Eastern Conference teams.
The Kings are struggling of late, having gone just 1-5-1 in their last seven games and scoring just nine goals in those games. Two out of their last three wins have been 1-0 shutout wins so I guess if anything, Jonathan Quick has been pretty good for this team. Other than that, their offense is a black hole reminiscent of the Buffalo Sabres for the first two and a half months of the season. Realistically, beyond Jeff Carter, there’s no one to be relied upon in this game.
I can really see this game going either way but I do think there are enough goals to make some skaters viable options. As good a game as this may be in real life, though, it’s probably not a great one for DFS options.
