Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – January 27

Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins

This one seems a bit too obvious, doesn’t it?

Buffalo has been better as team since coach Ted Nolan took over but it’s been a bit of a mirage of late; of Buffalo’s five wins since December 21st, exactly zero of them were games where goaltender Ryan Miller has a save percentage under .950. In other words, if Miller isn’t above-Vezina calibre on any given night, this team has almost no shot at winning hockey games. On the bright side of things, this team has only given up four power play goals against in 13 games since Christmas.

Pittsburgh has been a pretty high variance team of late – they are 2-2 in their previous four games with one goal scored in their two losses and 11 goals scored in their two wins. That type of team is very, very hard to rely on in DFS because of the nature of their games. Sure, it’s great when they strike it rich, but you may as well throw your money out the window on the drive home if they don’t. Maybe somebody that really needs it will pick it up.

With that said, the slate of potential close games tonight means you’ll probably have to rely on some Pittsburgh players in some lineups. A reminder that it will be Brian Gibbons lining alongside of Sidney Crosby to start the game tonight, which means absolutely nothing because it seems like any player that they put beside him can’t last than three shifts with him. It might not be a bad idea to start Marc-André Fleury in net tonight but again, expect high variance; it will probably be a shutout win or a 3-1 loss on 17 shots.
