Phoenix Coyotes at Vancouver Canucks
The Coyotes have started to right the ship a little bit in winning three of their previous five games. One of those wins was a 1-0 shutout of these Canucks 10 days ago. They are a tough team to project, though: this team has scored nine power play goals in their last 10 games but have given up seven in return; goalie Mike Smith has been inconsistent at the best of times; their forwards spread out the scoring enough to make it pinpoint one player. It’s a bit of a crapshoot with this team and tonight is no different.
Vancouver has played four straight one-goal games posting a 2-2 record along the way. The big problem of late is scoring as the Canucks have just 19 goals in their 11 games in January and that’s pretty much Buffalo Sabres level of production. If you’re looking for value plays, two guys that have been impressive of late are Zack Kassian and Chris Higgins (the latter foremost). If you are looking for a couple value plays, those guys aren’t a bad idea.
In the three previous meetings between these two teams, there have been just 10 total goals and no more than five in any of them. If you’re looking for guys to pad your point totals tonight, this probably isn’t the game to do it.
A quick reminder that Henrik Sedin has missed the last couple of games with rib/finger injuries and that’s moved Ryan Kesler to the top line. The domino effect of that is that there isn’t a whole lot left on the rest of their forwards lines. I’ll look at skaters from both teams in this game but stay away from both goalies.
