Nashville Predators at Edmonton Oilers
Despite all their issues this year, the Predators are 4-1-1 in their previous six games and have scored 21 goals over that six game stretch (that’s a lot for this team). The power play has been very good in converting six chances in those six games but the penalty kill has allowed just as many against so the net special teams production for this team is nil. This is the return game for goaltender Devan Dubnyk however so I would assume his team will have a little bit of extra jump in their stride tonight.
The Oilers are something else to watch. This is a team that is in the midst of a six-game losing streak and that’s the fourth time this year that this team has lost at least five games in a row. Amazingly, this team has just two power play goals in those six losses, converting twice on 21 chances (9.5-percent). I just cannot rely on this team in any format that includes plus/minus, they are just too horrific defensively as a team.
The last time these squads met resulted in a 3-0 Edmonton win and that game began the Predators’ first extended losing streak of the season. Of course, a lot has changed for both teams in the last two months since that meeting, for instance, Marek Mazanec will not be starting this game for Nashville.
This is another game where I don’t feel overly comfortable taking either goalie, though Dubnyk wouldn’t be a terrible choice if you’re looking for an outside-of-the-box goalie.
Quick note: Craig Smith has been on a tear for the Predators lately and is consistently their only real threat among their forwards. You could do worse.
