Winnipeg Jets at Chicago Blackhawks
This is the most tantalizing matchup of the day.
Winnipeg is coming off a 5-4 overtime win against Toronto where they blew a 4-1 lead, never a good sign for a team. A bright spot for the jets is the Evander Kane/Mark Scheifele/Blake Wheeler line that has been absolutely flying the last few games. It should be reminded that the Jets lost the possession game to the Leafs who are close to the worst possession team in the NHL. That doesn’t bode well for a squad heading into Chicago on the second of a back-to-back.
Chicago hasn’t been the usual juggernaut we’ve come to expect as they’ve lost two in a row and have just four wins in their last 11 games. This team has been much better at home than on the road of late having gone 3-1-2 in the month of January in their own barn. Despite the losses, the Blackhawks penalty kill has killed off 13 straight chances to help improve a PK efficiency that has been among the worst in the NHL this year.
Chicago and Winnipeg have played three times already this year with Chicago taking each game in regulation by a combined score of 15-5. Oddly enough though, Chicago’s power play has only clicked once in those three games. That doesn’t seem to matter though as this team is a buzz-saw at even strength.
I’ll be taking a lot of Blackhawks (including the goaltender) in this game. With the Jets playing on back to back nights and coming off a hard win against Toronto, this is a spot that is primed for a blowout.
