Pittsburgh Penguins at Dallas Stars
The Pens have scored 11 goals in their last two games after a 5-1 loss to Florida and that gives them five out of their nine 2014 games in which they’ve reached at least five goals. A big part of the Pens’ success this year, an unsung hero if you will, has been their penalty kill: Pittsburgh has gone four straight games without a goal against on the PK and sit at first in the league overall in this category. That could come in handy against this Dallas team. Be a bit wary, though, as there is nearly a 10-percent difference in PK efficiency between home and away games for the Pens this year, being much worse away from home.
Dallas is looking to turn their season’s fortunes around after losing nine of ten and it starts with the back to back wins they’ve put up by a combined 11-1 score. The power play has been a big help with an efficiency of 33.3-percent in their last six games (a 3-2-1 overall record in those games) while managing to give up just two power play goals against in that stretch. The top line of Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Valeri Nichushkin was finally reunited last game and they clicked for three even strength goals.
Again, a cross-conference game with no history is very hard to predict. In games like this, as I’ve mentioned, I will stay away from both goaltenders and pick away at the players.
Note: by the end of the last game, it was Jayson Megna who found his way to Sidney Crosby’s wing and I assume he’ll get the chance there again. He’s a cheap play to help you fill in your rosters though he’s a shot in the dark; one bad shift and he could find the bench for most of the night.
