Buffalo Sabres at Columbus Blue Jackets
Hockey is a funny game. The Sabres couldn’t buy a goal for most of the season but had played much better under the guidance of head coach Ted Nolan. Now, they’ve scored 15 goals in their last five games and have lost each one of them. They’re also just 1-5-2 on the road since the start of December with their lone win coming in the shootout against a beleaguered Washington team. On the bright side, they have five power play goals in their last six games and given up just three against so at least their special teams have been solid.
Columbus is the hottest team in the NHL right now with eight straight wins and a 9-1 record in calendar 2014. The team has 10 power play goals in their last 10 games (giving up just six against in comparison), not allowed more than three goals against in their last eight games and have one loss at home in the last month. It’s a beautiful thing to watch a team that is firing on all cylinders and the Blue Jackets are doing exactly that right now.
I won’t take time to analyze this further but in their two game so far this year, Columbus won 4-1 in Buffalo back October and in a shootout recently (again in Buffalo). I expect a whitewash by the Jackets and will be loading their skaters (and goaltender) accordingly.
