Washington Capitals at Montréal Canadiens
Both teams are coming off losses last night and it makes two nights in a row on the road for the Capitals. Not that the Habs are anything special right now but that should bode well for them.
The Caps were without captain Alex Ovechkin again last night and they now have one goal scored in their two games without him (not that they were scoring a ton with him recently, but that goes without saying). There are a lot of problems with this team: they’re punch-less without Ovechkin; their penalty kill has given up 11 goals in 11 games; the power play has converted once in eight games (4.2-percent efficiency) and they’ve been getting killed possession-wise for most of the season (though it’s been better lately). It’s not a pretty sight in America’s capital city right now.
The only team that might be crashing worse right now are the Canadiens. Following their 4-1 loss to Detroit last night, this team has now given up at least four goals against in five straight games (22 total) and their penalty kill has given up five goals in five games. There is almost nothing going right for this team right now and that kind of downward trend would normally be a great thing for almost any opponent except Washington.
The Habs and Caps have met twice already this year with each team taking a 3-2 game. I see the same kind of game here tonight but the Habs should be good enough to win. Depending who starts for Montréal, you could get good value in net with them tonight. On the other hand, these are two bad teams. Risk your DFS day on these teams at your own peril.
Note: Mikhail Grabovski unlikely to play after suffering an apparent knee injury last night. That injury depletes an already depleted forward group for this team as Grabovski was third in team scoring.
