Colorado Avalanche at Florida Panthers
Colorado is coming off a 5-2 loss at home to Toronto, one of the six victims of Toronto’s win streak. Other than that though, this is a team that is 8-3-2 since the Christmas break overall and has won four of their last five. This is also a team getting healthy as they welcome back P.A. Parenteau earlier this week and expect Alex Tanguay back in the lineup after missing two and a half months with various injuries. The addition of Tanguay gives the Avalanche three true scoring lines and he did have nine points in 13 games before injury.
Florida has gone 11 straight games without a power play goal but it hasn’t hurt them too much as they’ve gone 6-3-2 over that stretch. In those 11 games, the Panthers have only given up two power play goals against but both came in their most recent matchup against Buffalo. It should be noted they are still 29th in the NHL in penalty kill efficiency and Colorado’s power play has scored seven goals in their last 11 games. The Panthers are good at five-on-five but not so much on special teams and given that they’re riding a pretty good luck streak right now – they only have three of their last 14 games with a PDO under 1000 – it has to run out eventually.
I don’t like betting on teams eventually falling off – Toronto has raked my bank account for the last two weeks – so I’m a little wary of going heavy on the Avalanche tonight. With that said, the Avalanche have won all three of their road games this month while Florida has a penchant of losing to good teams at home. I will have quite a few Avs players in my lineups tonight.
