Los Angeles Kings at Columbus Blue Jackets
Los Angeles is coming off a hard-fought 3-2 loss in Boston yesterday afternoon, giving them an 0-1-1 record to start their four-game road trip. As has been the problem a lot for this team over the years, they couldn’t score; the Kings have scored more than two goals just three times in their last 14 games. They are also playing the second of back-to-backs on the road and the team is 2-3 in such situations this year. That means I don’t feel too great about whoever gets the start for Los Angeles tonight.
Columbus has won six in a row and seven of eight in 2014, a run that has vaulted them into the thick of the playoff race. The team has scored eight power play goals in those games and there doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason for their stretch: Columbus has won on the road, at home, on the second of back-to-backs, against both the West and East. They are just flat out winning games and this is a dangerous team now.
This is the first meeting of the year between these two teams but one thing that should worry Los Angeles is that Columbus has only allowed 18 goals against in those eight games with a third of them coming in a 6-2 loss to St. Louis. This isn’t good news for a team that struggles to score two goals a game.
This is a good spot for Columbus to win a game that they otherwise wouldn’t be expected to. I will be taking Sergei Bobrovsky in a few lineups and will be staying away from most Kings skaters.
