Ottawa Senators at Washington Capitals
The Sens have slowly but steadily climbed back into the playoff race in the East, now just one point back of a wild card spot. There is a little bit of a goalie controversy brewing as Craig Anderson has allowed nine goals on his last 54 shots in losing his last two starts, yet will again get the nod tonight even though backup Robin Lehner had a shutout a week ago today.
The good news for Ottawa is that Alex Ovechkin is a game-time decision for Washington, so even if he is able to go he certainly won’t be 100-percent. The Caps will need every edge they can get as they’ve now lost five in a row (0-3-2) and have slipped out of a playoff spot. The team’s power play has gone ice cold (1-for-13 in those games) so without Ovechkin, I don’t see a lot of hope here tonight.
These teams have met twice already this year and the Sens have won both games, outscoring Washington 9-5 in those games. The Caps weren’t able to skate with Ottawa, taking 10 minor penalties in those two games. I expect Ottawa to take this game tonight, though Craig Anderson does make me nervous in net.
I don’t like playing the stacking game in a game I’m not so sure about, but the Turris line has been en fuego lately and Turris himself has four goals in his last five games.
