Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – January 18th

Frans Nielsen, Daily Fantasy Hockey

Florida Panthers at Carolina Hurricanes

I would say that the Panthers/Hurricanes is today’s Sadness Bowl, but there appear to be some bad games tonight so I’ll just say it’s high on the list.

Florida has alternated wins and losses for quite a few games now and their streaks are not impressive: Florida hasn’t scored a power play goal since December 28 (0-for-27 since) while they have scored just seven goals in their last five games overall. They have managed to kill off every penalty since that December 28th game as well, though, so most have their games have been pretty close, if low-scoring.

Carolina has lost back-to-back games and have been shutout in both of those games. It’s not that they’ve been dead offensively – they have averaged 29 shots on goal in those games, not great but not bad either – they just haven’t been able to convert their chances. One problem area for them has been the penalty kill which has been operating at just over a 63-percent efficiency in their last five games. Not that it’s a huge worry against Florida considering their power play problems, but don’t be surprised if the Panthers break out of their power play slump tonight.

I’m not sure there will be a lot of goals tonight but Anton Khudobin wouldn’t make a bad play considering the offense that the Hurricanes are facing tonight. Other than that, I’ll just be looking for a couple of value skaters.
