San Jose Sharks at Florida Panthers
San Jose continues their quick East Coast road swing tonight in Florida, coming off a hard-fought 2-1 shootout win in Washington a couple of nights ago. As I mentioned that day, this Sharks team has been on a bit of a slide of late and while some of that is due to injuries, this started before those injuries. One bright spot has been a turnaround in Antti Niemi’s play as he’s allowed just three goals against in his last three starts.
Florida only has one regulation loss in their last seven games (4-1-2) and that’s all despite not scoring a single power play goal in those games (0-for-22). What helps is that they haven’t given up a single goal against on the penalty kill, having killed off 14 straight penalties in those seven games. This game could feature a lot of 5-on-5 play and that doesn’t favor the Sharks as much as you might think.
This is the first meeting between these two teams this year, but Florida is 4-2-2 at home this year against Western Conference opponents with their only losses coming to Los Angeles and St. Louis. While the Sharks would seemingly fit the bill as a team that should beat Florida – and they very well might – I don’t think this is a great game to choose from DFS-wise. I will be staying away from the game besides some value skaters and maybe Tim Thomas in net for a GPP.
