Phoenix Coyotes at St. Louis Blues
The Coyotes are on a bit of a slide, having lost three straight games now and five of their last six. In those three straight losses, the Coyotes have been outscored 14-5 and featured starts from both Mike Smith and Thomas Greiss. Their penalty kill is under 79-percent in those three games and for a while now, they’ve had trouble out-playing teams not named Calgary or Minnesota. It’s also worth noting they played last night in Winnipeg.
St. Louis had their seven-game winning streak halted in Vancouver on Friday night, a game where they outplayed the Canucks but didn’t get the puck luck. They’ll try to start a new winning streak tonight at home, a place where they’ve scored 21 goals in their last four games. In fact, in their last eight home games, the Blues have scored at least five goals in six of them with names like Chicago and Los Angeles on that list.
These two teams have met once before this season, oddly enough a 3-2 overtime win for the Coyotes in St. Louis, which constitutes one of St. Louis’ five home losses this year. The Blues completely outplayed the Coyotes in that game though and ended up with a 39-19 shot advantage by the end of it. That won’t happen twice in a row if that’s the shot differential.
To me, this is one of the better matchups of the night and I’ll have a lot of Blues everywhere (though maybe not Jaroslav Halak in net).
