New York Islanders at Florida Panthers
The Islanders, for all their problems earlier this year, have been on one heck of a run lately: over their last eight games, the Islanders are 7-1 and have beaten teams like Chicago, Boston, Colorado and Dallas. Since their Western road trip in early December, the Isles have won seven straight games on the road and have scored 29 goals in the process. Goaltender Kevin Poulin has won four straight games since Evgeni Nabokov went down with an injury, allowing just nine goals in those games.
Florida lost their last game out, making it six straight games trading wins and losses and has failed to convert on 17 straight power play opportunities. What’s been able to keep them afloat is their penalty killing has been perfect in those games as well, and all this has led to Florida playing a lot of tight-checking games as of late.
This will be the first meeting between these two teams this year so it makes me a bit nervous to rely on the Islanders to keep their offense going. The Panthers have allowed 16 goals in their last five games at home so there is that going for the Islanders.
With Travis Hamonic out for the game tonight for the Islanders, they will be missing one of their bigger goal scorers. I’m going to keep riding the Islanders offense for as long as I can and even dabble with Kevin Poulin in net.
