New Jersey Devils at Montréal Canadiens
The Devils are coming off that shootout loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday which made three free hockey games out of their last four. In their last six games, they’ve scored 11 goals total and haven’t scored more than three goals as a team in 10 straight contests. Their power play is just 10.7-percent over those 10 games, as well.
The Habs are coming off a big win at home against the Chicago Blackhawks and the team will try to find consistency tonight as they’ve traded wins and losses for six straight games now. One problem for the Habs is that their once-feared power play has failed to convert on 14 straight opportunities leading to the Habs scoring just eight goals in their last four games.
These two teams met in back-to-back games in early December which both resulted in wins for the Habs. It should be noted that the total goals scored were 6-5 and one of those wins was a shootout.
The wild card for tonight is Martin Brodeur, who is expected to start for the Devils. Over his last five games out, he’s allowed 14 goals against and the Devils don’t have the firepower to put up four goals in the hopes that Brodeur doesn’t give up more than three. I expect the Habs to win tonight but there won’t be a lot of goals.
