Ottawa Senators at Minnesota Wild
The Senators are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now, posting a 6-1-1 mark in their last eight games and their only regulation loss coming in Boston, hardly a big blemish. Tonight finishes off a four-game road trip for them and they have a goal differential of exactly zero, if that tells you how close some of their games have been. In goal for Ottawa, however, is Robin Lehner, who is making just his second start in Ottawa’s last 11 games and was in net for that loss to Boston.
The Wild have managed an impressive streak of their own in winning five of their last six games (which followed a six-game losing streak). What’s been most impressive about this is that even without Zach Parise for a while now and Mikko Koivu for their last four games, they’ve managed to score 20 goals in their last six contests. This is a team that struggled to score goals for a while and if they can draw penalties against the Sens (and Ottawa is third in times short-handed in the NHL at 3.9 times per game) then they stand a good chance of winning.
If you want to score on some cheap players that could be difference-makers in a GPP, I would look at Minnesota tonight. Over those last 10 games, the Sens have been stuck in close games and the Minnesota special teams could make the difference tonight. Don’t be surprised if Minnesota starter Darcy Kuemper keeps his hot streak going.
