Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings
The Canucks were able to end their five game losing streak on Friday night with a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. It wasn’t that impressive of a win, though, as the Canucks were pretty much outplayed from the opening face-off and it required a .968 save percentage performance from goaltender Eddie Lack to get the win. It will be Lack in net again tonight, as Roberto Luongo is still out with a lower-body injury.
Los Angeles outshot Detroit 45-26 on Saturday night but lost the game 3-1, giving the Kings seven losses in their last nine games. It’s been a weird run for the Kings of late, as they have outshot their last four opponents by an average margin of 19 shots per game but have only outscored those opponents 9-7. There is a shooting percentage problem in Los Angeles, which has been their issue for a few years now.
One of those last four opponents for the Kings were these very Canucks, a 3-1 win for Los Angeles in January 4 and was a game where the Kings outshot the Canucks 49-28. I expect more of the same tonight.
These two teams have scored just 21 goals in their last 10 combined games so this is probably going to be another low-scoring game. It’s a little worrisome for DFS, though, because a 46-save performance from Eddie Lack is better for DFS than a 23-save win for whoever starts for Los Angeles. That said, I’ll still take whoever starts for Los Angeles (presumably Jonathan Quick) and hope that the Canucks can manage some offense.
