Minnesota Wild at Nashville Predators
The Wild had their four-game win streak snapped last night with a 4-2 home loss to Colorado, a game that the Wild probably deserved to win but as is often the case in hockey, the team that deserved to win doesn’t always do so. A lot of it falls on the shoulders of goaltender Niklas Backstrom, who gave up three goals on just 17 shots. I would expect backup Darcy Kuemper to get the nod today.
Nashville, following their 2-1 shootout loss to the Senators last night, have now lost five of their last six games (1-2-3 record) with each game decided by one goal. The Predators have outshot their opponents in four of those six games but as has been the case with this team for years now, they just can consistently find the back of the net.
This is the third meeting this year between these teams with the each team owning a regulation win, though there have been just seven total goals scored in those two contests. Both those games were back when Pekka Rinne was still healthy, though, so times they are a-changin’.
I expect a low-scoring game here tonight, but for Nashville to get the victory; the Wild are just 3-7 on the road since December 1st, with two of those three wins coming via the shootout.
