Edmonton Oilers at Chicago Blackhawks
The Oilers are coming off a 4-3 win against Pittsburgh at home in Alberta and that gives them two wins in their last three games. This is a team grasping at straws, so any mini win streak is important. The power play is a big part of this team, as they are 4-0-1 in their last five games in which they score at least one power play goal. That’s pretty important because the Blackhawks are 28th in the NHL in penalty kill efficiency, though they have been a bit better as of late.
Chicago is playing on back-to-back nights for the second time in calendar 2014 already, coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to the Montréal Canadiens last night. The ‘Hawks have scored just 13 goals in their last six games (giving them a 2-2-2 record in those games) and five of those 13 goals came in a win in New Jersey.
The Blackhawks already have two wins against Edmonton this year, outscoring them by a margin of 10-5. Chicago’s penalty kill was not very sharp in those two wins, though, as the Oilers managed two goals on five chances. The countered with two of their own power play goals though, so as anticipated, the Oilers have been dominated at even strength against this team this year.
As per usual, I’ll have a lot of skaters in this game but will be staying away from both goalies as the Oilers offense scares me enough.
