Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers
The Flyers are coming off a home loss yesterday afternoon at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning, a game where Steve Mason was lit up for five goals on just 17 shots against. I would anticipate that Ray Emery gets the start, but keep an eye on things. One bright spot for the Flyers in that game was the Giroux line, which more or less accounted for all of the Flyers’ goals. The top trio seems to be a reasonable bet to put up points.
The Rangers, though it hasn’t been the case for most of this season, have started to turn things around at home as of late. To start the season, the Rangers went 6-10-3 at Madison Square Garden but they have now gone 3-0-1 over their last four. The power play has been a big part of the turnaround, as they’ve converted four power play chances out of their last 15 at MSG, a 26.7-percent conversion rate.
This is just the second meeting this year between these two division rivals, the first was a 2-1 win for the Flyers back in October, and they are separated by just one point in the standings. I’m not sure that the Flyers were looking past the Lightning yesterday – Tampa Bay is a pretty good team – but the big one for them this weekend is tonight.
I think this game is truly a tossup so I’ll be staying away from both of the goalies, but there are still good values to be had amongst the skaters.
